Let’s talk about the world of tennis today.

As you are all aware, tennis is one of the most popular sports in the world. Many of you all must have learnt tennis at some point in your life. It is an enjoyable sport and is loved around the world.

世界中で開催されるテニス大会

There are four tennis Grand Slams in a year. These are the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open. Let’s talk a bit about each of these incredible tournaments!

The Australian Open is held in January each year in Melbourne, Australia. It is the first of the four Grand Slams. It was founded in 1905 and the tournament is thus 115 years old.

Following the Australian Open, the French Open is held in May each year. This year, because of the pandemic, the tournament was moved to October. Tennis is played on a clay court in this tournament. The king of clay court is undoubtedly Rafael Nadal!

Next comes Wimbledon held in London every summer. It is the oldest tennis tournament in the world. People enjoy having strawberries and cream during this event and this is considered a traditional practice. The game is played on a grass court at this event.

The last Grand Slam of the year is the US Open, held in fall each year. It is played on a hard court. It is held in the Queens borough of New York city. This year, Dominic Thiem won the US Open.

Tennis cannot be talked about without mentioning the three greatest players in the world at the moment. They are Roger Federer (Switzerland) , Rafael Nadal (Spain) and Novak Djokovic (Serbia). They have been ruling the tennis world for years now and have millions of fans around the world. They have impressive skills and moreover, they have the mental strength and stamina to be world champions.

My most favorite tennis player is Rafael Nadal from Spain. He plays brilliantly on clay courts. He won the French Open this year where he thrashed Djokovic in three sets to win the title. Most importantly, Nadal is a very good human being. He is humble, kind and sincere which has won the hearts of his fans. He got married last year and lives in Mallorca in Spain. Mallorca is his hometown and very close to the beach. Nadal also owns a yacht! How splendid!

I also admire Novak Djokovic. He is from Serbia. His grit and determination are amazing. He plays excellently and is quite aggressive on court. He lost the French Open this year. I’m looking forward to seeing him compete at the Australian Open in 2021! He is the pride of Serbia and deservedly so!

Let’s move on now to the new fresh talent in tennis. The most promising players are Dominic Thiem (Austria), Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece), Alexander Zverev (Germany), Jannik Sinner (Italy) and Andrey Rublev (Russia). It will be interesting to watch their progress in the coming years and since they are extremely talented, viewers will surely witness some great tennis in the coming decade. I especially like Tsitsipas and Zverev and will be cheering them on!
