今回の英語フレーズはこれ!
As for the enlightening part, how many are you familiar with the phrase
too much of a good thing
This is actually a shortened version of the full-length phrase, which is usually used one of 2 ways:
There is such thing as too much of a good thing.
There is no such thing as too much of a good thing.
I’ve heard it said both ways, depending on the meaning, but for my blog this month, I would like to share why I’m firmly in the former of the 2 camps: I found out that there is such thing as too much of a good thing.
僕にとってのtoo much of a good thingとは
I love my job and working, and those of you who know me definitely know that I’m a workaholic, in the best way possible. I work a lot because I love my job! Since starting our wonderful FruFru online Skype classes, I’ve been doing them pretty nonstop, and especially last year during the early days of the pandemic (how long ago does that feel!?), it felt like I was working all day every day.
Well, I guess you could say that I got a bit carried away in the beginning. The Skype courses were so new, and it was such a joy to be able to see my favourite students ‘in person’, or at least as in person as possible given the current situation, that I couldn’t bring myself to take a break. I was hooked on them, just like so many of our students!
But, in the past couple of months, I just found myself feeling a bit worn down. I still enjoyed the conversation part, but the transcription and correction part is incredibly time consuming. I enjoy that part as well, don’t get me wrong, as it gives me a great opportunity to actually teach students after the fact of talking. But, it also took me away from my true passion: my Misconception series of courses!
So, I decided to put the good thing of Skype courses on hold for just a while, and redouble my efforts on what’s nearest and dearest to my heart; releasing my Misconception 3 Course, which I can’t wait to share with you all! It’s going to be a blast, and let me offer some words of, if not wisdom, then experience: take it easy, and remember you can have too much of a good thing!
夢中になるほど好きなことも、一息入れてみよう!
If you’re finding yourself tiring of something you love, try taking a break for just a bit. You’ll come back refreshed and more in love with it than ever! I can’t wait to get chatting and correcting Misconception 3 soon! It’s going to be the best summer ever!
