【子ども新聞 vol.11】日本の小学生・中学生はどうやって学校に行く？

 通学を安全にする日本の取り組み

日本の小中学校では、みんな歩いて通学します。

そのため朝には交差点や横断歩道で、お父さんやお母さん、シニアボランティアの人たちが交代で道路に立って、安全に学校に行けるようにみんなを見守っています。

みんなは大きな声であいさつして、元気よく学校に向かいます。

下校の時は、それぞれ家に帰りますが、もし、地震などの災害があった時は、家が同じ方向の生徒たちで集団下校をすることもあります。

集団下校は、上級生が下級生の面倒をみてくれて、みんなで一緒に帰れるからとても安心です。

海外ではスクールバスを利用したり親が送り迎えをしますが、日本では幼稚園やスイミングスクールに通う子供たちがスクールバスを利用します。

In elementary schools and junior-high schools, most students walk to school. For that, their fathers or mothers, or senior-volunteers stand at the crossroads and the crosswalks in turn, and watch over the students on the way to school in the morning.

Children say good-morning loudly and head to their schools.

When the students leave school, they walk from school with friends or alone. When a disaster like an earthquake happens, the students who live in the neighborhood go from school in a group.  Walking home from school in a group is a really safe system because senior students take care of junior students.

Students use school buses or their parents take their children to and from their schools in overseas, but in Japan, children usually only take school buses to kindergartens or swimming schools and so on.
