フルーツフルイングリッシュのフルフルで英語を学ぼう!Learning English on Fruitful English (with me!) is about more than writing!

Hi everyone!

Another month and another time to reach out to my wonderful students through the blogosphere!

I’m often at a loss to write these little texts, because they come so frequently. I’m not sure how long I’ve been writing these little musings, but it sure feels like ages. I really don’t remember the last time I missed a month, and I’m not about to start now! They’ve really become a part of my monthly routine. That being said, they don’t have a set spot in my routine, because it usually takes me a while to come up with something.

So, since I’m at a bit of a loss to share something in my personal life, I thought I would share what’s taken over my work life, for the better, and what I definitely has revolutionised education a little bit.

If you’re one of my regular students, I’m sure you have an inkling of what I’m hinting at here, but for those still in the dark, I’m talking about our new FruFru service on Fruitful English!

As a bit of history, I’ve been involved with Fruitful English for over 5 years now, and until last year, I’d been working remotely almost exclusively. That all changed last year though, when I hosted my first Tanegashima Boot Camp, and if I do say so, it was a huge success. All the survivors of the boot camp not only improved their English, but I can safely say they improved their motivation for English and made some lifelong friends along the way. It really opened my eyes to how much teaching in person could be. After that, I had a string of great seminars in Tokyo, where I was finally able to put a face to some names I’d seen online.

Then, 2020 hit. I’m not going to rehash what we all already know, but the repercussions of the events of this year have really hit me hard. I was all ready to move more permanently to my island home on Tanegashima, and start doing regular in-person lessons. So, while that of course could not happen, we made the best of what we had, and I think we came out with a winner.

I’ve really been enjoying being a teacher almost in person using Skype. Talking face to face let’s you build relationships faster, and nothing makes me feel better as a teacher than seeing and hearing my student’s improvement first hand (online hand?).

But the biggest win is for the students. I can’t count how many times I’ve heard reactions like,

I was shocked to hear how I speak.

I had no idea I spoke like that!

With our FruFru service, you not only get a conversation with an instructor like me, with suggestions and feedback on your writing, and corrections within the lesson. In addition, you get something even better; a transcript of half of the conversation. This transcript is then handled by your friendly instructor, who will point out every single mistakes you have and give you corrections and alternatives phrases where appropriate.

This is amazing for finding your weak points. It usually only takes me 1 lesson before I can see a students bad habits, which lets me give specific advice and help the student improve faster than they ever could before. Isn’t technology great? Our AI transcription is really something else.

That’s enough writing for me. I’m going back on Skype for another fun chat, and showing another one of my friends, who are almost my students, how to improve their English and survive the rest of this crazy year.

Bring it on 2020!
